Small Lofter tutorial

Very simple tutorial, but it might be useful to others who are on a very chinese moment of their life as well.
If you don't know what's Lofter, it's the China equivalent to Tumblr (and lowkey AO3 as well).
From what I have read, it has been on downhill due to it's aggresive monetization lately, and users kinda hate it now lol But people still post on it so you can find cool fanworks there.

- Regristration -

Like every CN site/app, you need an account to browse it. The easiest way is to make a WeChat account (I could register with a EU number despite CN banning EU territories most of the time, you just have to try a few times when it's 00:00 CN local time + give them a single cent).

- Downloading stuff -

Due to the aforementioned monetization, you can't download (or screenshot) stuff from the app. It limits you to 2 downloads per day or so unless you pay or get their in-app currency.
So you will have to do it all on PC, just like the posts you want to download later.

Entangled Life: How Fungi Make Our Worlds, Change Our Minds & Shape Our Futures by Merlin Sheldrake

Blurb:
When we think of fungi, we likely think of mushrooms. But mushrooms are only fruiting bodies, analogous to apples on a tree. Most fungi live out of sight, yet make up a massively diverse kingdom of organisms that supports and sustains nearly all living systems. Fungi provide a key to understanding the planet on which we live, and the ways we think, feel, and behave.

In Entangled Life, the brilliant young biologist Merlin Sheldrake shows us the world from a fungal point of view, providing an exhilarating change of perspective. Sheldrake's vivid exploration takes us from yeast to psychedelics, to the fungi that range for miles underground and are the largest organisms on the planet, to those that link plants together in complex networks known as the "Wood Wide Web," to those that infiltrate and manipulate insect bodies with devastating precision.

Fungi throw our concepts of individuality and even intelligence into question. They are metabolic masters, earth makers, and key players in most of life's processes. They can change our minds, heal our bodies, and even help us remediate environmental disaster. By examining fungi on their own terms, Sheldrake reveals how these extraordinary organisms--and our relationships with them--are changing our understanding of how life works.

This is the February read for [community profile] bookclub_dw so I'm going to reserve most of my review for the discussion post over there. But I will say that this is one of the more wild and entertaining journeys I've been on in a long time! Well worth the read!!!

Go USA Women's Hockey!

Specifically the women's team! USA mens? meh... I like a few of them, but am pulling for Finland.

Sport's Bra opened early for the game, and I may have had french fries for breakfast.

That was a fuck of a game, Canada scored early on us on a shorty and kept that lead until almost the end of the game. Hillary Knight managed to score right at the end, pushing to OT.

Someone lost their shit because they thought America had just won, because they didn't understand the visual difference between a live shot and a reply. People were excited and that was awesome, but they mostly had no idea what was going on.

Anyway, the Sports Bra is arranging a bus to and from Seattle for the Torrent's pride game in April. Getting to Seattle for games isn't hard, but it's getting back that's tricky. I may get in on that.

I've always wanted to watch Berserk, but never got around doing it. Believe it or not, when I was a teen I read the comics, well, not all of them, but some of the volumes that a friend lent my sister. Was I too young for that crazy violent shit? Sure. Would I read it anyway? Of course hahaha.

So today, I started watching the anime... and oh boy, are we in for a ride here. Don't let me get started on how much of it we can find in Dark Souls, because I guess everyone knows by now. But holy cow (I just typed holy coq and was tempted to leave it like that, but let's behave a bit here).

Anyway, while watching episode 2, I got the urge to make some icons. And I was amused by the fact that I can literaly take a screenshot with "imp paint" and paste it on photoshop from Netflix. We could not do this shit with regular videos before! (before meaning eons ago lol). So yeah, I got me some new icons of these pretty creatures.

Just like I did with this post, I thought it would be great to share today's icons, since they do not qualify for a proper batch to post at my graphics community lol. So here they are! Feel free to take, use, and leave me a comment if you also love Berserk ♥

I've always had an obsession with Casca. That character blew my mind when I was a teen. Love Berserk urgh help.

Some Fics I've Bookmarked Lately

Lately meaning in the past 6 months, I guess. I've read some fun fics! Going through my bookmarks, though, I'm seeing so much Naruto fic that I think I'm going to have to do a separate post some other time for those. The theme this time is mostly social media AUs, with one outlier. Now, I haven't seen Heated Rivalry and don't really plan to because it's live action, but the social media AUs I see for it are SO FUN, I love them all.

The Hunger Games17 Last Words from Hunger Games Tributes That Are STILL Echoing In Our Heads. Yes, Still.
A Buzzfeed-esque listicle that is exactly what you would expect from the title.

Heated Rivalryplease leave a message
Ilya gets added to Montreal's WAG group chat as 'Lily.'

Heated Rivalry#shaydenreal
Hockey RPF fandom goes nuts when half of the biggest juggernaut is revealed to be in an actual gay relationship with someone else.

Heated Rivalry, Holy Situationship, Batman! + Welcome to the Internet
Ilya makes a reddit post with the genders swapped, and his post goes viral and creates a fandom for two imaginary star crossed pageant queens.

Cunk on Earth + Interview with the Vampire, Cunk on Fangs
Philomena Cunk interviews Louis de Pointe du Lac. It is absolutely hysterical, and spot on with its Philomena Cunk voice. Probably my favorite fic out of all of these.

Old Fashioned variant recipe

A while back at work, the general manager tried to get us to come up with cocktail ideas for Christmas. I came up with a variant on an Old Fashioned! It might be a drink that already exists out there somewhere, but I hadn't heard of it before. It's basically just an Old Fashioned with some orange and cherry liqueurs added, chosen based on the typical garnish for an Old Fashioned.

2 oz scotch (or whatever whiskey you like, really)
0.5 oz Grand Marnier (or whatever orange liqueur you have on hand)
0.5 oz Luxardo maraschino liqueur (or the syrup from bottled or canned filthy maraschino cherries)
2 dashes angostura bitters (or more if you like bitters)
2 dashes orange bitters (or more if you like bitters)
0.25 oz simple syrup (optional, depends on how sweet you like your drinks. The orange liqueur and maraschino liqueur should add at least the typical amount of sweetness that you would get in an old fashioned, but if you're like me, that's not quite enough sugar lol)

Stir all ingredients in ice, then strain into a double rocks glass with fresh ice. Garnish with a slice of orange and a maraschino cherry.

It's a strong drink for sure, but I like it because it's like an Old Fashioned with some nice fruity flavors that's easier for me to drink. If you make it, let me know what you think! I called it a Santa Maria for the Christmas theme and because it was a Mexican restaurant.

There is another big bundle at Itch.io. This time proceeds go to support the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota. The center has been at the front lines in combating the current administration's attack on Minnesotans, providing logistical and informational support to those targeted by ICE. As usual there are a handful of new games in this bundle in addition to megabundle staples.

Even if game bundles are not your thing, if you want to support the victims of ICE in Minnesota right now the ILC is a good option for that. The news has moved away from the state now that the thuggery has gotten more understated, but a lot of people have suffered long term damage, both physically, to their livelihoods, and psychologically, and they continue to need support.

* Terry Pratchett Discworld Humble Indie Bundle. 16 bucks for over 35 books, $401 value.

* I do not have time or space in my life to rewatch B5, but if they really are going to do the whole series weekly I might do that. Could be interesting, as it's doing a weekly watch along. I was originally not going to consider it, but after having rewatched a few eps I keep thinking about one scene.

There is an episode where each race has to do a demonstration of their dominant religion. It's not just what Sinclair chooses for Humans, it's how strongly the show's production committed to the scene, especially with the shoe-string budget.

* If I do a lot of sporadic posting today it's because of milk. I've been so hardline about my diet for so long, I've often wondered if my system is really that sensitive to certain things after so many years of controlling my IBS symptoms.. as much as I enjoy working at Dragonfly Cafe they have a bad cross-contamination problem with drinks that need any kind of stirring or steaming and yes, holy shit, milk protein fucks me up. As sick as I am right now, this should mostly clear up quickly. I'll get to 85% better soon and then that last 15% will linger for a bit.

* I did make myself go and do some pre-possible-snow shopping. I have extra food, and also some shelf stable options in case of power outage.

At all. Like, it started with somewhat good news, then it all slowly went a bit downhill. I was so sad yesterday, I didn't touch the frontend course at all. But today, despite still feeling bad, I managed to finish the HTML part successfully. Now I'm in the CSS part, and I'm actually learning a lot of stuff I didn't know how to do before, so that's great! I'm very scared with starting JavaScript, but we'll see. I'll let you know how that goes, hopefully next month.

Besides that, I've changed both my profile and my layout. The banner I'm using for the profile is new, I'm trying to make new stuff here and there when I feel inspired. However, the current layout is not new, I made this for myself and used for a loooong time before. It's back now I guess lol. I love Please Save My Earth ♥
a pretty layout design featuring Alice of Please Save My Earth manga in the header, with purple-ish tones
You can click on the image to see a full preview of the design, in case I end up changing my layout before you see it

Anyway... there's not much more to tell right now. I'm going back to reading some more theory on CSS, and then go to bed. As I said, my mood's not been great. I hope things sort out somehow, and I can go back to my usual self soon. I hate feeling like this.

* I am hoping to watch the Olympics Women's Hockey Gold Medal game tomorrow. Sports Bra is opening early.

* Finns made it to the next round! They have a decent chance at a medal.

* Sweden starting Markstrom again. They've got both of the Wild goalies, an amazing tendie duo, but every time I look at a game it's Markstrom. And right now Markstrom has only let in 1 of 31, so maybe it's the right call.

I'd hoped to catch the Wild goalies, but they only played Gus in some early round games and Wall not at all. (Technically, they are not out yet, but they are playing the US rn so...)

Actually, the game is surprisingly close, so this is now a liveblog. Read more... )

Highlights from Katsucon

I only went to one day of Katsucon, but omg it was fantastic this year!!!!! Alex was house/catsitting for her sister for the weekend, and since her sister lives near DC, it was closer than our place. Sooooo Liz and I headed there Friday night, grabbed a very late dinner at McDonald's with Alex, and then watched a bunch of enstars videos on youtube so Alex was ready to be excited for Absolute uwu

Also, she gifted me an adorable new friend, who goes absolutely perfectly with my CNstars cat nuis ;w; I also made them ice cream cones to match Madara's global exclusive card, and I think they came out really good ♥

if anything happens to my tutulong I'll just fucking die lmao

.....and then I stayed up waaaaaay too late because I'm fucking nocturnal D: Even though we had to wake up at 7 am to drive down early enough to get parking....I'm not smart :T

Liz and I didn't cosplay this year, cuz I didn't feel up to it, so I wore...a wig, a corset, and a floor length skirt XD wig is my Mayoi wig that I haven't styled yet - I pulled it out of the bag on Friday night and was delighted to discover that it's a lacefront - and the skirt is one I made for the Vampire Ball Liz and I went to in 2017. This did end up biting me in the ass because the corset ended up not sitting super well by the end of the night D: But we'll get to that later~

First thoughts on this year's katsu: holy shit I didn't realize how bad lobbyconning had gotten. I could actually move through the halls without be crushed by crowds????? Like, I was there on Saturday and I didn't feel cramped every second of the day. They did move registration to its own building, which freed up space to give Artist Alley a larger location, but still. It was really nice to be able to breathe during the con.

After getting our badges, we ran into some friends of Alex and Liz that they hadn't seen in over a decade, so everyone had a good time catching up. Which is, tbh, a classic Katsucon experience, since so damn many people go.

The first programming we went to was an absolutely delightful performance by Special for Princess!- or should I say Nice? XD Nice Arneb Thunder was MCing and they did a fucking incredible job. like. not to spoil it or anything, but this was such a highlight of my day, idk if anything topped it :0

Also, the esupuri group was just really sweet!!! They seemed so excited and a little surprised that so many people had come out to see them ;w; But seriously, they were quite good and did a good combination of songs and games. The trivia was great for me and Liz, since we actually keep current with the JP stories~ Liz won a tiara for answering some 4piece trivia correctly!

We hit up the Artist Alley for a bit after that, got lost in conversation with a Nagisa cosplayer who usually cosplays Double Face Kohaku, and I was blown away by their gorgeous ita bag. They had so many can badges from the DF TRIP album *w*

....and then we remembered we woke up balls early and Liz & I hadn't eaten :T So after debating a few options, we made our way to our tried and true katsu food: Mezeh. They opened sometime between katsu 2017 and 2018, and we've gone basically every year since. It's affordable and actually filling, especially since they have fresh veggies. Sometimes you gotta get some greens in you- especially at a con!!!

not me sounding like an ad read for my favorite fast casual restaurant lmao

The dealers room is a bit of a blur to me because it's soooooo big and there's so much to see, but I remember it being.....fun? Busy? It was probably one of the more cramped places at the con, but that was partially because some people are just rude. Many people shoving their way through...I didn't come with much money cuz it was a last minute decision to even go, so I wasn't sure about buying anything besides maybe something small from the idol goods booth. But since the idol goods booth wasn't there this year (?????), I ended up getting a new ita bag~

I'd seen it around on insta and lusted over it, so now it is mine!! I'm planning something around Double Face's TRIP album for it OwO

And then we had to hustle to finish artist alley before it closed, cuz we weren't coming back on Sunday D: Liz and I weren't planning on spending any more money, but 1) Alex wanted to buy more stuff and 2) we still wanted to see all of it. And in the end we did buy more XD We got a few more Trigun charms from [instagram.com profile] magpiesoddities, because we've been collecting their super chibi ones since Stampede came out~ They also gave us a free plantcest sticker for being men of culture (perverts).

uhhhhhh what did we do after that..............

OH RIGHT!!! Liz and I chilled on a bench sorta new the dealers room/artist alley area while Alex went to the MXTX photoshoot, and basically just took in the sights. I love people watching at cons :D We also got to help some youths (late teens/early 20s maybe?) learn the ways of Caramelldansen. They knew the dance and song, and it sounded like they'd heard people used to dance to it at cons? So they were trying to figure out how to bring it back. So while it was a conversation that made me feel very old, it was quite wholesome.

After debating back and forth a bunch, we ended up eating dinner at the grab and go place in the Gaylord. It wasn't necessarily "cheap" but like...nothing in National Harbor is, you know? And we didn't have to leave the building, which was a big plus. I'd never grabbed anything from there before, so now I know that it's not half bad.

We wanted to go to the video game room next, but my corset was fucking killing me and I needed to find a family bathroom so Liz could help me loosen it (since all the handicapped stalls in the Gaylord are barely wider than regular ones). So that was quite the fucking adventure. BUT WE EVENTUALLY DID IT. And I've learned I'm never wearing a floor length anything to Katsucon again.....idk how I forgot this lesson from 2017 lmao.

Next up: video game room! And..............it kinda fucking sucked??????? Lie, the games were brought from the same people who supply them for a video game bar I go to here in Baltimore, and usually it's a much better selection?? Like how did Anime USA, a significantly smaller con than Katsucon, have such a better video game room? idk man like......it was kinda disappointing. They didn't even have Chunithm ;w; And it closed at midnight, which is baffling. Katsu used to run sooooo late into the night, I swear it was originally a 24 hour con. Maybe I'm wrong? But I've been going for 17 years now, so I'm pretty sure I'm right :T

Whatever! Alex is gonna come down so we can go to the much better video game bar here~

After we watch cookie monster and godzilla have a cage match in the hall, we were all wiped and ready to head home. So lemme share all the pics I didn't include throughout the entry, cuz it would have ended up even longer :T

welcome to the party (many katsu pics inside) )

Happy Valentines and goodnight from the boys!!!! I carried many nuis around all day but tbh it was such a rush that I barely took the time to sit, let alone take pics of them D: I will say that the cat kigu nuis with their ice cream cones were a hit with the many Double Face fans and cosplayers I ran into~

All in all, a successful day at the con!!!!! Hopefully finances will be better and I can go for the full weekend next year, but I can now say I've been going to katsu for 17 fucking years.....which is wild. Here's hoping the next 17 are even better!!!!!!

This is one of those niche 90s songs that if you missed it when it first came out you probably haven't heard it since then-- I'd still be in the dark, myself, except it was played on BBC Radio 2 the other day before an interview with Baz Luhrmann and it was so weird I had to look it up on Wikipedia and then listen to it again a few more times.

It's another rainy/drizzly/grey day here and that means I get to cuddle with the cat under a heated blanket and read books! Yay!

I'm currently 150-ish pages into Sailing Alone by Richard J. King which is a deep dive into the memoirs/adventures of people who sailed across oceans on their own.

It's more about the reasons why someone would do that than a how-to, and each chapter or so focuses on a single sailor but ALSO compares their experiences to other sailors and how they're all intertwined-- including how they've influenced the author's life. It's really well-written; I love travel memoirs/travel histories in general, but this book takes pains to highlight people besides the big names (aka mostly rich white men), so I'm even more interested! And now I have a huge pile of books added to my TBR, too.

I also recently put down George Sand's A Winter in Majorca, which is a travel book about her time spent in Mallorca in the 1800s. Despite a decent first chapter I found it fairly boring (it's one of those ones where the traveler hates nearly everything about the country/people who live there), and the physical book is a pain to read because of the extremely tight binding, so I decided to give up on it for now. Maybe I'll come back to it as an ebook, or maybe I'll just read one of her other books instead.

However, their plans are soon diverted when a body part is discovered in a remote town called Barra Creek. With the Northern Territory police force focused on a large-scale search for two missing backpackers, Dulcie and a very reluctant Eddie are tasked with identifying the John Doe.

Sticky, sweaty and juggling comprehensive thrush infections, the detectives find themselves embroiled in a world of crocodile-fuelled tourism, overstretched Indigenous rangers, cagey locals, and seven-metre prehistoric predators – all of whom call Barra Creek’s stretch of land, and water, their home. As the humidity builds, and Eddie and Dulcie dig deeper, more questions arise for our duo – not only about the case, but the many secrets that lie beneath the surface of this small town.

新年快乐!

I meant to post yesterday but I've been feeling a bit tired and rundown this past week. Hopefully better by the weekend - I have lunar new year celebrations and a friend's birthday to get to. Not to mention my book club tomorrow night!

Things watched recently:

• Seven episodes of Isekai Office Worker: The Other World's Books Depend on the Bean Counter, an isekai BL anime about an accountant accidentally ending up in a fantasy world, reforming the royal accounts department, getting hooked on magical energy drinks it turns out he's allergic to... and being saved from an overdose by a handsome young knight in the world's silliest fuck-or-die scenario. And then continuing to make political waves with his accounting!!! power, which is just so satisfying to watch. DAMN THAT MAN LOVES TO ACCOUNTS. The subtitle of the show is correct, the other world's book do indeed depend on the bean counter, and not everyone is happy about him tracking their spending... I'm having so much fun with this! It's funny, but also in a strange way an office worker power fantasy, but also there's political fallout for everything and that feels right, too. Once the season's over I'll have to track down the books.

• All of season one of Lord of Mysteries, first in Chinese, and now I'm watching the English dub. I really will have to track down the novels, the first of which is already out in translation here (apparently the second is out elsewhere in the world but doesn't arrive in Australia until next month?? sigh). I'm hoping to track down that book tomorrow night, if the book store that claims to have a copy really does.

This is also a transmigration story, but it's a steampunk-y horror transmigration fantasy. The main character ends up in a world where people take potions to cultivate into eldritch monsters, basically. He spends the first episode bewildered (and so did I hahaha) but pretending he has any clue what's going on, and I think one of my favourite things is how both his Chinese voice actor and English voice actor give him the kind of voice that can trick you into thinking he's almost a totally normal guy... and then you step back and look at the facts and you're just like, wtf, Klein! He's a great character, but I also like a lot of the supporting cast; my favourite character is actually Leonard, a guy who once fell down a flight of stairs because he was distracted reading a book (relatable). Leonard regularly tries to act cool and mysterious at Klein, who keeps calling Leonard a weirdo instead of being impressed, and I'm very entertained.

I do have... extremely mixed feelings... about the evil secret sect of people who take potions that make them women which gives them more powers to do more evil things, and by mixed feelings I think that has very unfortunate implications but they are all unfortunately also so sexy.

• I watched the remaining episodes of Betrothed to my Sister's Ex, a really charming cinderella story type anime I started last year. Which is actually really good. I appreciate that it doesn't just have the charming romance of Marie coming to be loved by rich handsome dweeb Kyros and everyone else in the castle, as well as slowly learning to love herself, it also deals with how she and her younger sister were abused by their family in different ways, and the ending is a happy escape for both of them. I really liked it!

• I also finished This Monster Wants to Eat Me, a subtly yuri-flavoured anime about the main character's suicidal depression, and the monsters that would prefer her not to die, actually. And like, it really is very good, but it is also so heavy so it makes sense it took a while for me to finally get to the final episodes.

Cosmic Princess Kaguya (2026), truly the superior of the animated lesbian space princess movies I've watched so far this year. It does zip through plot very fast, so it's not without flaw, but I loved this lesbian sci fi take on the tale of the bamboo cutter, and the scissoring handshake is just an A+ detail. Great songs, a lot of fun.

• Which means Lesbian Space Princess (2025) is the lesser animated lesbian space princess movie I've seen this year. The songs are okay. I was stunned to learn after the fact that the homophobic blokey spaceship was voiced by Richard Roxburgh. It is sometimes funny. The best joke was the Maliens and the thespian. I don't regret watching it, but like... eh.

Scarlet (2025): Wow, it's amazing how IMAX can make a bad film worse. I didn't realise before going to see it that this was an AU version of Hamlet where Hamlet is a girl who meets a handsome Japanese man from the present day in the afterlife, so that was... strange. It's uh not good. Some of the emotional stuff would have worked better if those scenes had not been dragged out, and a lot of the animation is TV quality limited animation. Morally incoherent, which is a feat because it's so thin and slight. The bit with the imagined Shibuya dance sequence is uh... I don't even know. That sure was a film I watched.

Finished my second route (4 endings more), as I made my way upwards from Retsnom, my next landing was Coming of Age.
I missed Darumi a ton but overall it was a cute story, shonen power of friendshp route.
Somehow did this one in straight order so I didn't had to backtrack at all to see all the ednings.

EDIT: I wrote that intro & first ending.... around a week & half ago, and since then I finished more routes (got a total of 18 edings) so I will cover Cult Of Takumi & Killing game route as well. I actually wanted to writte ending-by-ending, but since it has been a hot second I kind of forgot my initial thoughts lol So I will just talk about the routes as a whole.
They put a curse on me & my month has been & continues to be terrible, so that's why I didn't update until now kjdsf So this will probably be short, just a quick update to whoever might be interested. I'm not sure if I mentioned it over here, but I'm livebloging the game at Twitter if you want to see.
