So, the thing I love most in fanwork is taking canon character dynamics and just...making them More. Taking them further, exploring their natural progression, usually in a hurt/comfort-y way. I've mentioned the character dynamics and ships I love under each fandom, along with some rambly thoughts and prompts - speaking of which, please feel free to pick, choose, mix, match, play with any, all or even none of said prompts, if that's where the muse takes you. 💛
I love hurt/comfort with all my heart and soul, so most of the prompts here will probably contain it to some degree.
I am a-okay with any kind of exploration of character dynamics - h/c, casefic, fluff fic, angst, missing scenes, outsider POV, outsider POV contrasted with canon characters' POV, getting together fic, established relationship, you name it I love it. I'm also very much okay with or without smut - I enjoy it, and have a bunch of likes listed, but please don't feel pressured either to include it or not to include it - just go with what feels right. :D

I love kisses of all descriptions, especially at the forehead, temple, hands, throat, or collarbone. I love characters undressing each other, reverently for most pairings, roughly for some (see Collateral and Top Gun). I love seeing characters in partial states of undress rather than seeing them completely naked, especially if there's also a focus on their hands or collarbones or throat. I love seeing characters with love bites, hickeys or bruises; I love characters touching and tracing other characters' wounds or scars, especially if it looks like they got distracted while undressing them to do so. I love characters in shibari, especially under dress shirts, or characters' wrists being tied with something luxurious like velvet or ribbon.
I also love h/c focused art - characters undressing their injured/sick partners or taking off their glasses, if they wear them (eg. Hunley, Mancuso, Ethan in MI 1). Characters patching sick/hurt characters up, with stitches or bandages or ice packs, or cleaning scrapes on the hurt character's face or hands. Sick/hurt characters with their hair messed up, perhaps hiding their faces in other characters' chests or shoulders. Hurting characters sitting at other characters' feet to be taken care of with hair stroking or shoulder rubs, or just burying their face in the other character's lap. Smaller characters getting carried bridal style when they're not feeling well, maybe clinging to the character carrying them if they're not unconscious. Hands in general, especially if they're scratched or hurt and being taken care of. :D
(I'm vaguely not-okay with pink or green as a dominant/background colour, but I love...well, basically every other colour there is. Jewel tones are great! Limited palettes are great! Bold colours are great! Whatever you can think of is great! I love it all. :D Style-wise I would prefer no chibis or overly cartoonish styles; I'm very cool with anything and everything else, including experimental styles!)

Tricks: I'm very here for Ray falling apart in the wake of canon, exploration of collective trauma as well as his individual trauma. I'd like to see how it gets worse before it gets better, whether in the mental/emotional sense (PTSD episodes, nightmares, trying to help other survivors while hardly knowing how to help himself) or in the tangible, physical sense (falling seriously ill or getting badly injured after everything's over, falling ill or getting injured as a result of a PTSD episode where he ended up staying out in the rain too long or just generally not knowing where he was). Very here for Ray trying to cope via inadvisable substances or even more inadvisable sex with strangers; very, very here for someone nice to help him start to pick up the pieces. My Darkest Night letter has a lot more thoughts on all of this!
Treats: I'd love to see Ray getting some serious comfort. (I'm kind of bitter that his ex and her family didn't even bother to invite him in or offer him a glass of water or a place to sleep.) Maybe he finds a group of fellow survivors who take him in, and does his best to look after them until he crashes and they have to look after him instead. Maybe he even finds a romantic partner (of whatever gender!) among them. I'm very here for Ray being surprised and baffled that anyone would care about him enough to want to take care of him, and just barely able to handle gentleness.

Ray and someone cute drowning their sorrows in each other would be lovely. Perhaps they've both been through similar things during the horrors of the past few weeks, or perhaps the other person's demons are different from Ray's; perhaps this could be really dark and complicated and full of pain, perhaps it could be sweet and simple solace.

I love Ethan, Luther, Hunley and Jane deeply. I love all their platonic dynamics deeply also, and I ship Ethan/Luther, Ethan/Hunley, Ethan/Luther/Hunley, and Jane/Zhen.
Tricks: Despite its persistently, defiantly sunny worldview - which is the thing about it that I love most - MI has a lot of darkness hovering beneath the surface, so I'd love to see some of that explored. Show me a mission gone wrong, where Ethan gets hurt or his cover gets blown or he has to try and sacrifice himself to buy time for the team to save the world. Show me Ethan and Jane holding each other in fear while they wait for a go sign. Show me Luther or Hunley talking soothingly to Ethan over the radio to keep him conscious when he's hurt or sick and hovering on the verge of delirium. Show me what it looks like and how it feels when Ethan takes care of the rest of his team so much that it takes a toll on his own health. Luther's the only person in canon (apart from Ethan's ex-wife) to see Ethan cry, to hold him while he's nearly in tears; show me that. Ethan and Hunley seem to know each other on a much deeper level in Fallout from where we left them in Rogue Nation; show me how they got there, whether through late nights working through bureaucratic bullshit together or through Hunley being Ethan's handler and seeing him hurt and vulnerable through missions and post-mission debriefs. Show me all their nightmares when they're alone, and if the dreams are different when they're together.
Treats: show me all these characters' love for each other! 💛 Show me them knowing each other's orders at breakfast places after missions. Show me Ethan falling asleep on Luther's shoulder, holding Hunley's hand, wearing Jane's scarf. Show me the cuddle piles after missions, whether someone's injured or sick and needs looking after, or no one's hurting and they're all just tired. Show me Ethan asleep on the couch in Hunley's office, under Hunley's suit jacket, and Hunley not even minding that he's no longer impeccably formally dressed because Ethan is warm and comfortable (and Luther and Jane being like 'you know what that is? growth!') Show me Ethan and Luther making out so carefully after a mission where they thought they wouldn't make it out alive, or Ethan and Hunley finally having their first kiss after surviving something they almost didn't. Hell, show me Luther comforting Ethan while he's shaken and hurting and scared after the very first movie. Ethan comforting Jane over losing Hanaway, because he knows how much it hurts to lose loved ones. Hunley or Luther carrying Ethan, or even Jane carrying him. Ethan and Hunley looking after each other when they're both so badly injured after Fallout. Jane and Luther joining forces after missions to make sure their adorable dumbass leader gets some goddamn rest.
If you're going the romantic route, I'm very here for submissive!Ethan, with doms who treat him gently and prove worthy of his trust.

Ethan Hunt/Being A Sub. Seriously, this is the most 'sensual submissive' song I've ever heard, and matches the feelings I have about sub!Ethan exactly - I love his partner(s) to pick him up, hold or tie him down, tell him what to do, and for him to love every minute of it. I also love his partners to be slightly hesitant about dominating him and him encouraging them by being super into it.

Tricks: I am here for all the Mav!angst, with all his acting out and jagged edges and lack of self-worth and desperate need to please. I love this translating into his having Sub Issues - seeking out pain in order to cope (whether it's with Charlie or with strangers, or indeed with Ice), and going too far because he thinks he deserves the pain, and maybe ending up in subdrop or hurt badly enough to need medical attention as a result - but if you don't want to go there, I also love it just translating into Charlie/Mav being an unhealthy relationship, with Mav taking Charlie's snide remarks and emotional manipulation because he believes he deserves nothing more, maybe even convincing himself he's an idiot for wanting any more. (Putting up with feeling useless and unloved because he sometimes gets a word or two of praise.) To clarify, I'm very open to sympathetic readings of Charlie - I just think she and Mav are incompatible in a way that works against him. If the idea of Charlie/Mav as unhealthy relationship appeals to you, especially Charlie/Mav breaking up and leading into a healthier Ice/Mav relationship, I have some prompts for that here.
In case the relationship angles don't work for you, I'm also very here for exploration of Goose's death, and the echoes of it in Mav's life afterwards. There's clearly no mental health support for him whatsoever, whether professional or from his friends, and I'm here for him falling apart or learning to heal, especially while doing his best to support Carole and Bradley as well. More thoughts about gen, or at least less sexual, angst here. I'd love to read Mav dealing with his feelings at the loss of Goose, the only person he knew adored him despite everything he hates about himself, either in the immediate aftermath of the film or later, over the years. Basically all the hurt and pain, maybe Mav finally breaking and having a PTSD episode or just getting to cry a bit, and if you really love me, some warm comfort from Ice at the end.
Treats: I ship Mav and Ice a lot, and I also love Goose's beautiful platonic love for Mav, so I'd love anything with one or both of those dynamics. 💛 Maybe Goose taking care of Mav when he's sick, or maybe Ice taking on the caretaking role after Goose's death and Mav not knowing how to deal with that because he has the worst crush on him. Maybe everyone watching this happen while knowing Mav and Ice are into each other...except that Mav and Ice themselves don't know it because they're idiots. I also love Mav and Ice platonic, as friends or learning to be friends, or each believing the other hates them while they actually like each other...because they're idiots.
I'm also really here for Mav/Ice/Slider, with Slider grudgingly learning to like Mav because Ice likes him, and then realizing Oh No He's Really Fond Of Him Actually.

Rule 63 Maverick/Rule 63 Iceman! I'm obsessed with f/f Mav/Ice, with Mav being a small edgy bi/pan punk and Ice being a tall butch lesbian who could break Mav in half (which Mav loves). As with canon Mav/Ice, I am super into f/f Mav/Charlie breaking up to lead into a healthier, happier Mav/Ice relationship.
Backsliding - Carrie Underwood
Very into Mav and Ice having an on-again-off-again thing, meeting up in secret when one of them can make time for the other, sneaking around on base and off, perhaps being deeply in love while still somehow convinced the other one hates them. I love this song for that! I'd love it to be resolved at the end with them getting together for real, though.

Fandom Thoughts:
I ship Jack, Ramius and Mancuso in any combination, up to and including all three of them together. 💛 I also adore their platonic dynamics, with Jack's adoration and hero worship of Ramius and Bart, Ramius's instant fondness of Jack and deep respect for Bart, and Bart's grudging respect for Jack that could grow a great deal as well as his instant admiration and understanding of Ramius.
I love the warmth of this film, and would love that warm atmosphere to carry over into fic or art.
Tricks: There are a lot of possibilities for some serious hurt/comfort here, both immediately post-movie and further on in time in this universe. Jack has serious flying-related PTSD; he's also had a serious back injury that left him in traction for years and clearly still hurts him some days, and he's just been exposed to cold and damp and a lot of exertion for a sustained amount of time. Bart is a navy sub captain, and could get badly hurt either while on duty, or perhaps while at a government conference or reporting to his superiors on base, as part of a new ~political conspiracy adventure/Jack-Ryan-movie-esque plot. I'd love to see Marko and Bart look after Jack, or Jack and Marko look after Bart, perhaps while they're hurting so badly they're not all there, remembering awful things they went through. All three of these characters have spent a lot of time alone, and I could see them as unused to receiving love and tenderness, and drinking it in when they do.
Treats: fluffy and warm takes on h/c! also, fluffy and warm takes on d/s! I love Marko or Bart as Dom(s) to Jack, but I'm also kind of wonderfully destroyed by the thought of Bart as Dom to Marko - Marko has enormous Dom Energy in general, especially with Jack, but the scene where he hands over the Red October to Bart got me feeling things about Bart, who also has a lot of Dom Energy, being the only person in the world whom Marko would submit to. This goes double because when we see Mancuso give orders on the Dallas, he gives them softly, gently, and everyone immediately leaps to obey; I'd love to see him have the same command style in the bedroom, especially if Jack is sick or hurt and feeling guilty about it and needs to be told to let himself be taken care of, or conversely, if Bart himself is mildly sick or hurt and needs to convince the others to stop worrying and kiss him already, damnit. More fluffy h/c and d/s thoughts here!

Fandom Thoughts:
Tricks: Vika/Jack as unhealthy relationship, even abusive, with Vika as the aggressor. The 49s and 52s were clearly deeply unhappy, with both Jacks facing Vikas who at the very least ignored and belittled them, and 49 facing sexual coercion as well. I would love some exploration of these dynamics - more thoughts here and here. I'd also love exploration of Vika/Jack as a healthy relationship, contrasted against the many unhealthy ones.
Treats: I would love some Jack-centric h/c, perhaps where Jack 49 lives at the end of the film (maybe permanently injured even) and is looked after by another Jack, whom he then falls in love with. Any Jack/any Jack is wonderful, I'm a sucker for selfcest. Would also love seeing the differences between the various Jacks and how they were shaped by their regions and the books and clothes and history they found there over the years, and how they learn to live post-apocalypse, especially how they look after each other if one or more of them have lasting injuries, health issues or PTSD.
I'd also really love Jacks bonding with their drones - maybe even from the drones' POV! More thoughts about that here.

I love seeing characters with love bites, hickeys or bruises; I love characters touching and tracing other characters' wounds or scars, especially if it looks like they got distracted while undressing them to do so. I love characters in shibari, especially under dress shirts, or characters' wrists being tied with something luxurious like velvet or ribbon.
I also love h/c focused art - characters undressing their injured/sick partners or taking off their glasses, if they wear them (eg. Hunley, Mancuso, Ethan in MI 1). Characters patching sick/hurt characters up, with stitches or bandages or ice packs, or cleaning scrapes on the hurt character's face or hands. I'd like to see how it gets worse before it gets better, whether in the mental/emotional sense (PTSD episodes, nightmares, trying to help other survivors while hardly knowing how to help himself) or in the tangible, physical sense (falling seriously ill or getting badly injured after everything's over, falling ill or getting injured as a result of a PTSD episode where he ended up staying out in the rain too long or just generally not knowing where he was). Treats: I'd love to see Ray getting some serious comfort. (I'm kind of bitter that his ex and her family didn't even bother to invite him in or offer him a glass of water or a place to sleep.) Maybe he finds a group of fellow survivors who take him in, and does his best to look after them until he crashes and they have to look after him instead. Maybe he even finds a romantic partner (of whatever gender!) among them. I'm very here for Ray being surprised and baffled that anyone would care about him enough to want to take care of him, and just barely able to handle gentleness.

Tricks: Despite its persistently, defiantly sunny worldview - which is the thing about it that I love most - MI has a lot of darkness hovering beneath the surface, so I'd love to see some of that explored. Show me a mission gone wrong, where Ethan gets hurt or his cover gets blown or he has to try and sacrifice himself to buy time for the team to save the world. Show me Ethan and Jane holding each other in fear while they wait for a go sign. Show me Luther or Hunley talking soothingly to Ethan over the radio to keep him conscious when he's hurt or sick and hovering on the verge of delirium. Show me what it looks like and how it feels when Ethan takes care of the rest of his team so much that it takes a toll on his own health. Luther's the only person in canon (apart from Ethan's ex-wife) to see Ethan cry, to hold him while he's nearly in tears; show me that. Ethan and Hunley seem to know each other on a much deeper level in Fallout from where we left them in Rogue Nation; show me how they got there, whether through late nights working through bureaucratic bullshit together or through Hunley being Ethan's handler and seeing him hurt and vulnerable through missions and post-mission debriefs. Show me all their nightmares when they're alone, and if the dreams are different when they're together.
Treats: show me all these characters' love for each other! 💛 Show me them knowing each other's orders at breakfast places after missions. Show me Ethan falling asleep on Luther's shoulder, holding Hunley's hand, wearing Jane's scarf. Show me the cuddle piles after missions, whether someone's injured or sick and needs looking after, or no one's hurting and they're all just tired. Show me Ethan asleep on the couch in Hunley's office, under Hunley's suit jacket, and Hunley not even minding that he's no longer impeccably formally dressed because Ethan is warm and comfortable (and Luther and Jane being like 'you know what that is? growth!') Tricks: I am here for all the Mav!angst, with all his acting out and jagged edges and lack of self-worth and desperate need to please. I love this translating into his having Sub Issues - seeking out pain in order to cope (whether it's with Charlie or with strangers, or indeed with Ice), and going too far because he thinks he deserves the pain, and maybe ending up in subdrop or hurt badly enough to need medical attention as a result - but if you don't want to go there, I also love it just translating into Charlie/Mav being an unhealthy relationship, with Mav taking Charlie's snide remarks and emotional manipulation because he believes he deserves nothing more, maybe even convincing himself he's an idiot for wanting any more. (Putting up with feeling useless and unloved because he sometimes gets a word or two of praise.) To clarify, I'm very open to sympathetic readings of Charlie - I just think she and Mav are incompatible in a way that works against him. If the idea of Charlie/Mav as unhealthy relationship appeals to you, especially Charlie/Mav breaking up and leading into a healthier Ice/Mav relationship, I have some prompts for that here.
In case the relationship angles don't work for you, I'm also very here for exploration of Goose's death, and the echoes of it in Mav's life afterwards. There's clearly no mental health support for him whatsoever, whether professional or from his friends, and I'm here for him falling apart or learning to heal, especially while doing his best to support Carole and Bradley as well. More thoughts about gen, or at least less sexual, angst here. I'd love to read Mav dealing with his feelings at the loss of Goose, the only person he knew adored him despite everything he hates about himself, either in the immediate aftermath of the film or later, over the years. Basically all the hurt and pain, maybe Mav finally breaking and having a PTSD episode or just getting to cry a bit, and if you really love me, some warm comfort from Ice at the end.
Treats: I ship Mav and Ice a lot, and I also love Goose's beautiful platonic love for Mav, so I'd love anything with one or both of those dynamics. 💛 Maybe Goose taking care of Mav when he's sick, or maybe Ice taking on the caretaking role after Goose's death and Mav not knowing how to deal with that because he has the worst crush on him. Maybe everyone watching this happen while knowing Mav and Ice are into each other...except that Mav and Ice themselves don't know it because they're idiots. I ship Jack, Ramius and Mancuso in any combination, up to and including all three of them together. 💛 I also adore their platonic dynamics, with Jack's adoration and hero worship of Ramius and Bart, Ramius's instant fondness of Jack and deep respect for Bart, and Bart's grudging respect for Jack that could grow a great deal as well as his instant admiration and understanding of Ramius.
I love the warmth of this film, and would love that warm atmosphere to carry over into fic or art.
Tricks: There are a lot of possibilities for some serious hurt/comfort here, both immediately post-movie and further on in time in this universe. Jack has serious flying-related PTSD; he's also had a serious back injury that left him in traction for years and clearly still hurts him some days, and he's just been exposed to cold and damp and a lot of exertion for a sustained amount of time. Bart is a navy sub captain, and could get badly hurt either while on duty, or perhaps while at a government conference or reporting to his superiors on base, as part of a new ~political conspiracy adventure/Jack-Ryan-movie-esque plot. I'd love to see Marko and Bart look after Jack, or Jack and Marko look after Bart, perhaps while they're hurting so badly they're not all there, remembering awful things they went through. All three of these characters have spent a lot of time alone, and I could see them as unused to receiving love and tenderness, and drinking it in when they do.
Treats: fluffy and warm takes on h/c! also, fluffy and warm takes on d/s! I love Marko or Bart as Dom(s) to Jack, but I'm also kind of wonderfully destroyed by the thought of Bart as Dom to Marko - Marko has enormous Dom Energy in general, especially with Jack, but the scene where he hands over the Red October to Bart got me feeling things about Bart, who also has a lot of Dom Energy, being the only person in the world whom Marko would submit to. This goes double because when we see Mancuso give orders on the Dallas, he gives them softly, gently, and everyone immediately leaps to obey; I'd love to see him have the same command style in the bedroom, especially if Jack is sick or hurt and feeling guilty about it and needs to be told to let himself be taken care of, or conversely, if Bart himself is mildly sick or hurt and needs to convince the others to stop worrying and kiss him already, damnit. More fluffy h/c and d/s thoughts here!

The 49s and 52s were clearly deeply unhappy, with both Jacks facing Vikas who at the very least ignored and belittled them, and 49 facing sexual coercion as well. I would love some exploration of these dynamics - more thoughts here and here. I'd also love exploration of Vika/Jack as a healthy relationship, contrasted against the many unhealthy ones.
Treats: I would love some Jack-centric h/c, perhaps where Jack 49 lives at the end of the film (maybe permanently injured even) and is looked after by another Jack, whom he then falls in love with. Any Jack/any Jack is wonderful, I'm a sucker for selfcest. Would also love seeing the differences between the various Jacks and how they were shaped by their regions and the books and clothes and history they found there over the years, and how they learn to live post-apocalypse, especially how they look after each other if one or more of them have lasting injuries, health issues or PTSD.
