Hi there! Thank you for creating for me. ๐Ÿ’› I am academicgangster on Tumblr, and simplecoffee on ao3.
So, the thing I love most in fanwork is taking canon character dynamics and just...making them More. Taking them further, exploring their natural progression, usually in a hurt/comfort-y way. I've mentioned the character dynamics and ships I love under each fandom, along with some rambly thoughts and prompts - speaking of which, please feel free to pick, choose, mix, match, play with any, all or even none of said prompts, if that's where the muse takes you. ๐Ÿ’›

I love hurt/comfort with all my heart and soul, so most of the prompts here will probably contain it to some degree.

I am a-okay with any kind of exploration of character dynamics - h/c, casefic, fluff fic, angst, missing scenes, outsider POV, outsider POV contrasted with canon characters' POV, getting together fic, established relationship, you name it I love it. I'm also very much okay with or without smut - I enjoy it, and have a bunch of likes listed, but please don't feel pressured either to include it or not to include it - just go with what feels right. :D

( Letter with navigation links under the cut! )
Once again, thank you for creating for me! I hope you have fun with it - that's what it's all about, after all. ๐Ÿ’›

Hi there! It's been...a while, hasn't it. I promise I don't make a habit of being this late. It hasn't been a great couple weeks. Thank you for your patience. <3 As always, if you've read my signup, there are no surprises in this letter; all the DNWs are the same as in my signup, the likes list is a little expanded and pretty much the same, and what's added over and above that is basically just a whole ton of rambling about fandoms, characters and freeforms. :D

Hello, and thank you so much for writing for me! I am simplecoffee on ao3, and academicgangster on tumblr.

Of the four fandoms I'm requesting this year, one (Collateral) has a deeply kinky, mutual dubcon vibe, and for that one, I'm in it for all the kink. For the other three, I've requested pairings that have a traumatic, messed up, noncon dynamic, and I'm very much in those for the horror and trauma of the act and possible recovery afterwards.

I'm a-okay with a Mature or Explicit rating, wherever the muse takes you! I'm also pretty easy - I ramble a lot in this letter, with a lot of ideas and thoughts that generally start with the canon character dynamic and then run with it. Please feel free to mix and match any of the prompts, or even not to use any of them and just to use the list of them as a jumping-off point for however you'd like to go exploring that particular dynamic - whichever you prefer.

Hey there! Thank you so much for sharing my fandoms and for writing for me! I am simplecoffee on ao3 and academicgangster on tumblr.

So, the thing I love most in fanfic is taking canon character dynamics and just...making them More. Taking both the darkness of canon and the light, taking what's left unsaid of both, and exploring what makes them so.

With that reasoning, for each of my requests, each tag in the cloud can be taken as a prompt on its own, or you can read the tags for that request as a whole and get a pretty solid idea of the general vibe for that canon that I love. While my likes and DNWs are similar overall, there are enough slight differences between them for different canons that I'll separate them rather than put them in a single section; broadly speaking, I love hurt/comfort and strongly prefer the darkness to be tempered with light - I'm never averse to fluff and softness to mitigate the awfulness of what the characters go through. (Collateral, being the darkest, most jagged canon of the ones I'm requesting, is the exception to this; I am okay with a dark ending for this fandom, while I'd rather a happy, hopeful or at least bittersweet ending for the others.)

I'm going to ramble a bit in this letter about the dark aspects of each canon that I like, and about some individual tags that catch my fancy - but I do love all my requested tags very much, so I'm pretty much guaranteed to love whichever one(s) you choose, regardless of whether or not I mention it separately here. <3 Please feel free to mix and match whichever freeform tags you like, and where I've requested a / pairing, to go with getting together or established relationship as you prefer! I am also more than okay with or without smut, as you like.

Hi there! Thank you so much for sharing my fandoms and for writing for me! <3 I am academicgangster on Tumblr, and simplecoffee on ao3.

Pining is one of my favourite flavours of shipfic, and the pairing dynamics I love tend to lend themselves heavily both to pining and to hurt/comfort - so you'll find a lot of the freeforms I've requested include some h/c on the side. I've also requested, in all sections bar Under Siege, that the pining character's affections be requited - I'm all about the happy, or at least bittersweet-but-positive, endings.

My favourite thing in fanfic is to take canon dynamics and just make them More, exploring the characters' canonical feelings for each other in, for this exchange, a shippy way. So I've arranged my requests by pairing; for each request, each tag in the cloud can be taken as a prompt on its own, or you can read the tags for that request as a whole and get a pretty solid idea of the general vibe for that pairing that I adore. I'm going to ramble a bit in this letter about some individual tags that catch my fancy, but I do love all the tags very much, so I'm pretty much guaranteed to love whichever one(s) you choose, regardless of whether or not I mention it separately here. <3

Hey there! Thank you so much for sharing my fandoms and for writing for me! <3 Hurt/comfort is my literal favourite thing in fandom (as my ao3 and tumblr will attest), and I am So Excited for this exchange!

So, the thing I love most in fanfic is taking canon character dynamics and just...making them More. Taking them further, exploring their natural progression, in either a gen or a shippy way. Most of my requests include the gen variant of a character dynamic as well as the romantic version, so I'd love either the & or the / just as much! (There are just a few where I have a clear romantic-or-platonic preference, and for those I have requested only the & or the / version, not both.)

With that reasoning, I've arranged my requests by pairing: for each request, each tag in the cloud can be taken as a prompt on its own, or you can read the tags for that request as a whole and get a pretty solid idea of the general vibe for that pairing that I adore. I'm going to ramble a bit in this letter about some individual tags that catch my fancy, but I do love all the tags very much, so I'm pretty much guaranteed to love whichever one(s) you choose, regardless of whether or not I mention it separately here. <3

simplecoffee: (This Above All)
A good few years ago, vesperregina and I had a conversation about how heterosexual kisses are usually depicted in onscreen media, sparked by a tangent I went on in a liveblog of the Star Trek: TOS episode Space Seed. I'm archiving that train of thought here from tumblr at her request!

( Where are the characters' hands? )

My current thoughts on this matter, super super briefly: it...is obviously much more nuanced than this (and, after all, the episode I spoke of above was made in the sixties) - but it is, I think, still broadly true that in onscreen heterosexual kisses, the woman is often subtly shown as the less-assertive partner. So subtly, in fact, that we hardly notice it at all. Let's have more ladies directing their kisses. And more lady Dommes, yes good.

Dear Yuletide Writer -

First of all, thank you for being awesome, 'cause I know you're awesome! ♥

You're in a fandom I'm in, so I'm sure I'll enjoy whatever you come up with! I do have...a ton of thoughts about Everything, as per my usual, so I'm just going to wordspill a little bit here. First, the very basics:

Things I adore in fic: Hurt/comfort (usually in roughly equal proportion), character studies, canon-compliant angst, slice-of-life fic, friendship and soft affection. genuinely, throw any classic h/c scenario at me and I will be a happy, happy clam.

Things I'm not keen on in fic: Mundane/depowered AUs (coffee shop etc - I prefer fic to mostly stick with canon), unrealistic medical details, gastrointestinal illness, deathfic, noncon, violent or aggressive homophobia, Explicit-rated stuff (I'm a-okay with Mature though!)

(also, this is not in any way obligatory, but in case you'd like some random h/c ideas, i have a hurt/comfort tag on tumblr that's full of 'em!)

While I'm rambling, here are some fandom-specific thoughts - please feel free to pick, choose, mix, match, play with any, all or even none of them. (Please don't feel obliged to stick with any of the prompts, either - these are just here in case they strike your fancy. If you feel like surprising me instead, absolutely surprise me! <3)

( Rambling under the cut! )

Thank you for reading, and thank you for writing! and speaking of writing, I hope you have fun doing so - that's the whole point of it, after all. ♥
simplecoffee: (lui รจ mio!)
I went and watched the first Mission: Impossible film, because of course I did, and...I'm lost. It's a fandom of mine now. I'm in.

I am also very, very drugged right now - it's been a miserable week, allergy-wise - so instead of attempting coherent paragraphs, I'm going to make a list. Things I enjoyed about the first MI film, and specifically the series protagonist, Ethan Hunt:

...I am also, inevitably, idly author-doodling around the idea of a Fugitive crossover. Hunt knows Noah (they're around the same age), and will sometimes show up injured at the marshals' office for a drink and to be patched up between impossible missions. Sam sees 'Noah's friend + injured' and immediately considers him an Honorary Kid. Nobody tells on the honorary kid, 'cause officially he doesn't exist, anyway.

simplecoffee: (scarlet senorita)
My thoughts on watching my first film in the Mission Impossible series, Mission Impossible: Fallout: HEY, NOBODY TOLD ME ETHAN HUNT IS A SOFT AND SELF-DEPRECATING CUTIE WHO'S ALMOST ALWAYS IN OVER HIS HEAD AND SOMETIMES HAS NIGHTMARES.

WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME THIS. I'd have watched the rest of the series a whole lot sooner if I'd known! To think that all this time I've been labouring under the delusion that he was Just Another Spy Who Kicks Ass. ...Not that Spies Who Kick Ass are not my weakness; they absolutely are, it's a thing. But y'know, there is a cookie cutter when it comes to these characters, and there is the fact that people men boys tend to strike up conversations around the concept of 'who would win? James Bond, Jason Bourne, Jack Bauer or Ethan Hunt?', which made me broadly put Hunt in the same category as the other three - who tend as such to be ~pretty dark and brutal. I was also probably going off my impression of Tom Cruise's other spy/agent character, Jack Reacher - both of whose films I enjoyed a great deal, but felt no particular affinity toward the character himself. So Ethan's actual character was a super pleasant surprise.

Seriously. Wholesome. He's doing the job because he cares too much and he hasn't let it make him cynical at all. He knows all the shit he ends up pulling is surreal and that he shouldn't have got out of any of it alive. He makes no secret of flying by the seat of his pants when he has to, and even laughs at himself for it. He has an ex he's on healthy speaking terms with. And he makes sure everyone's safe, and he sometimes has nightmares. I'm not in love - my 'compassionate hero in a high-ranking government job' top spot belongs to Sam Gerard from The Fugitive, who, though he is many things, is decidedly not a spy - but I am impressed.

I do continue to be unimpressed with the general tendency of Boys (an occupational hazard in thriller film fandom) to always be like "bro, let's put all the super spies together in a hypothetical FIGHT and then find out who would hypothetically WIN". I propose instead that we put them all in a room-escape game, with real-world consequences to make it fun, and tell them they have to fight, when the truth is they can only actually win by cooperating. So, superspies / covert operatives with franchises unite: James Bond, movieverse Jason Bourne, Jack Bauer (24) and Ethan Hunt. Maybe toss in Jack Reacher and also Martin Riggs (Lethal Weapon) - and although Jack Ryan is an analyst rather than a spy spy, he also gets in on account of a) working for the CIA and b) having Harrison Ford's face.

I figure Riggs starts a bunch of squabbles for the fun of it, Bond goes around shooting stuff, and Ryan is the first to call bullshit. This is stupid, Ryan says. Why are we fighting each other, Ryan says. (Just because some punk said so? Ryan says, pointing an angry finger at a security camera.)

Hunt says, reasonably, "Because there are three of us here called Jack."

Then Natasha Romanoff busts them all out of there, with Evelyn Salt in tow, because they're both awesome and deserve their own franchises.
